Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique
My approach offers you a way to excel in your field, to surpass your limitations, through a process guided by conscious guidelines and clear technique.
Performing artists, athletes, yoga/martial arts practitioners willing to dedicate both time and effort will benefit greatly from this approach.
If you have “hit a wall” or reached an impasse in your pursuit, my teaching can lead you to a breakthrough.
But why do we get stuck in an impasse? Why so often the harder you try the more you hit a wall?
This is the question F.M. Alexander, a frustrated orator, posed as he investigated his persistent voice loss. Alexander discovered that habits he formed, both physical and mental, were at the root of his problem.
Just like Alexander, the incorrect habits you have formed hinder your performance. These restrictions accumulate over time to rob you of the joys of performance. They foster frustration and frequently result in injuries.
Habits are insidious. You feel we are right even when you are wrong. Habits ensnare us between two extremes: excessive tension on one side collapses on the other, with seemingly no way out.
Yet between these extremes one will find a neutral direction, a neutral force. What it requires is a new way of looking at things, a new idea.
And this brings us to Alexander’s most important discovery: Our ability to override our habits through conscious directions – conscious guidelines. These new guidelines free us from the habitual and frustrating practice based on trial and error.
Integrated to these guidelines is a subtle yet powerful way of using your breath. infusing these directions with breath will enable you to unify your movements into an integrated whole.
Moreover by consciously infusing these guidelines with your breath, you'll create a subtle yet profound way to unify your movements into an integrated whole.
This is the path to Inner Strength, a true power distinct from crude external force.
If your goal is to excel, you’ll need a well-founded technique. Many methods use elaborate techniques, but all too often they are divorced from guidelines. Without clear guidelines, technique often turns into a confusing and frustrating maze.
My friend & student David. We played together in his diverse endeavors: dance, voice, Aikido, and juggling.
My teaching integrates the power of Alexander’s guidelines with the precision of a clear technique. A technique which offers you step-by-step progress in your quest. Furthermore, my expert Hands-On guidance will lead you to a new and liberating experience of movement.
