Having studied with two Alexander teachers previously, I was impressed by Ari's clear method, which allowed me to progress at my own pace. The process fostered a sense of possibility for meaningful change, leading me to enroll in his Teacher's Training Program. I found this program more challenging than the three years I spent earning a Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, this training gradually opened new doors to address my challenges in life in a more centered conscious way.
Later after abdominal surgery I lived with reoccurring pain. When none of the doctors or practitioners could help me, the work with Ari proved to be most effective.
I surprised myself by how rewarding it is to teach the Alexander Technique (rather than treating patients) to watch them improve step by step with conscious guidelines.

Plagued by spondylolisthesis-induced back pain and spasms since high school, I started to explore tai chi and dance in the late 1980s to improve my movement. This led me to Ari's Alexander Technique classes, which enhanced my movement remarkably. I realized though, that to resolve my condition I needed to study the Technique in depth, so I moved to Oakland to join a training program. Later, I was also certified as a Feldenkrais teacher.
In 2002, after completing my trainings, I began teaching. However, a series of events left me severely incapacitated with back spasms and limited mobility for over two years. Despite seeking help from colleagues, I only found temporary relief.
In 2012, Ari visited me during a conference in Oakland. He gave me a lesson, which provided a genuine vision for my recovery. I immediately committed to working with Ari, eventually moving back to San Diego. Gradually, I came to recognize the unique, step-by-step approach which he developed, an approach which no other teacher had to offer, and which was key to my recovery.
In time, my back and body healed, and Ari retrained me as an Alexander Technique teacher. Now, back to working with my own students, I continue to deepen the practice Ari taught me, which keeps me healthy and flexible as I approach my mid-sixties.
I am so grateful for Ari’s guidance, insights, and vision over the many years I have known him.

My student, Victoria, also studied fencing. After a prolonged break to focus on her work with me, her fencing teacher wrote her the following upon her return.
I'm really surprised at how assured your fencing is, Vic. I think that you may be more poised and aggressive than you were before you stopped. Once we get you to hit the right part of the bloomin' blade you are going to be a sabreuse to be reckoned with.

I went to see Ari because I have Parkinson's disease. He has been a miracle worker for me. He has not cured me, of course, but my neurologist is absolutely amazed at how well I am doing. I was first diagnosed around 2003. I am doing so well that some people hardly notice that I have Parkinson's, and those who know somebody with the disease are amazed at how well I am doing in comparison to their friends with the disease. I know it is mostly due to Ari because when I occasionally get lazy and do not do as he instructs, I quickly get worse. So, then I go back to following his program. I cannot thank him enough.

Ari Gil is one of the best teachers I have ever come across. His knowledge of the human body and its movement is unparalleled. Having been born with a congenital hip deformity, my whole life has been a series of doctors and therapists of one kind or another.
My year with him enabled me to see my life better and make some changes that were not easy. We worked through a lot of blockages, physical and emotional.
For now, I have exercises and ways of moving that are much better than what I had before starting to work with him. My qi is flowing better thanks to Ari. Do yourself a favor and let Ari share his knowledge of the Alexander Technique with you. You’ll be a different person for it!

I came to study the Alexander technique after observing a client of mine – who did not respond well to the combination of chiropractic treatment, acupuncture and body work – made dramatic improvement by working with Ari.

After about eight years of doing massage full time, I had so much pain in my hands and arms that I was thinking of leaving the field. Not only did the Alexander Technique completely free me from pain it also improved my work tremendously.

About ten years ago I was suffering from an inflamed tendon in my left thumb. I saw an orthopedist, who treated me with steroid injections; the first time it helped for about three days, the second time it helped for about three hours, and the third time it helped not at all. The orthopedist recommended surgery. My wife recommended seeing Ari.
After I explained the situation to Ari he said, “Got it. Okay, we’re not going to treat your thumb. We are going to work on your back and your shoulders.” After the second visit my thumb was noticeably better, and after four visits my thumb was back to normal.
A few years late a new GP, ... asked, “How did that surgery work out?” I asked, “What surgery?” “For your thumb.” “I never had surgery on my thumb. I found an Alexander teacher, and he took care of it.” She was very pleased with my choice.
